Corporate Sector
There are two main ways that dentists work with private companies. First of all, you can get a position as a salaried dentist providing dental care for employees of a large company. This is similar work to general dental practice.
The other main opportunity is to top up your income by testing products from dental pharmaceutical companies. To get this type of work, you need to be fairly established in a dental practice (normally in the private sector rather than NHS) and network with company reps at conferences and other events.
It is possible to get a job on a cruise ship (usually a 4 or 7 month contract). You are generally paid commission to provide simple services such as teeth whitening, but if you want to take a year out after dental school or DFT, then this might be an option to fill some of your time doing something vaguely dental related. Normally you are paid on commission.
